SCSI II Interface Cards
- I have just installed my new Castle Technology SCSI card and the computer now seems to take forever to boot. Can I change this ?
Yes! If you don't have a CD-ROM drive attached to your Castle Technology SCSI card, you may find it beneficial to unplug the CDFS drivers and thus reduce the time dramatically it takes your computer to boot. This can be done by pressing F12 from the Desktop followed by:
*unplug CDFSDriver
Then reset the machine using <CTRL><BREAK>
- I have split my SCSI hard drive into several partitions but I can only get access to one.
Press F12 from the Desktop followed by:
*configure scsifslink 'x' 'y' 'z'
where 'x' is the scsi disc number (4-7)
where 'y' is the scsi ID from '*devices'
where 'z' is the partition number (0-7)
Then reset the computer using <CTRL><BREAK>
- I have an internal SCSI hard drive and an external scanner. Both work fine independently but not when they are both connected.
Make sure both the hard drive and scanner are terminated and that the terminator blocks on the SCSI card are taken out.
- How do I get my Acorn computer to boot from my new SCSI hard drive?
Press F12 from the Desktop followed by:
*configure filesystem SCSI
*configure boot
*scsi
*configure scsifsdrive 4
*dir :4
*opt 4,2
Then reset the computer using <CTRL><BREAK>
- I have a Castle Technology SCSI card in my Risc PC as well as a PC card. Is it possible to use SCSI devices like a scanner on the PC side?
Unfortunately no... well not yet anyway. What is required is something called an 'ASPI' driver on the PC side to talk to the SCSI card in the Acorn world and as yet this hasn't been done.
I have a Castle Technology SCSI card and I can't get anything to work on it. If I type *devices when there is nothing connected, I get the response "File 'devices' not found" but when I do the same with my hard drive/scanner etc. attached, I get "Device not terminated"
What almost certainly has happened is that the small surface-mount fuse located near the back of the SCSI card has blown. To see if this is the case, switch off your computer and disconnect everything from the SCSI card. When you have done this, switch the machine back on and after you have arrived at the desktop Press F12 followed by:
*rmreinit scsihandler
If you get the response 'SCSI bus unterminated' then I'm afraid this is the case. The termination fuse only ever blows because of one of two reasons. Either too many terminators have been connected to the SCSI bus, or more commonly, a standard printer cable with printer attached has accidentally been plugged into the SCSI card. Whichever is the case, the result is the same and this fuse has to be replaced. The best way to get this done is give Castle Technology a call and speak to one of our technicians.
- I have just purchased a SCSI Syquest/Iomega removable media unit and although I have managed to format it and made sure it is linked to an appropriate icon, I still can not get access to it. Whenever I click on the icon, I just get the hour glass up for a few seconds and then nothing.
When you format a removable media cartridge, you must remember to give it a name otherwise you will not be able to access it.
- I have a Castle Technology SCSI card in my RiscPC running the new filecore but I can not get 'SCSIdForm' as supplied on the 'SCSI Utilities' disk, to format partitions larger than 500Mb.
'SCSIdForm' does not know about the new filecore and therefore can not take advantage of the larger partitions allowed with this filesystem. If you want to format partitions larger than 500Mb then you must use '!Setup' as supplied on more recent versions of the disk. If you do not have this utility then give Castle Technology a call and we will drop a copy in the post to you.
