EuroIDE Interface Cards
- I can not get the EuroIDE card to work properly on my Acorn computer. It appears to be very intermittant, sometimes I get the hard disk name, and others just '4'
The first thing to make sure is that if you are not using an A3000, you have a 4 layer backplane. The EuroIDE cards can not be guaranteed to work at all on the standard 2 layer versions. The easiest way to check if you do have a 4 layer backplane or not is whether you can see through it. If the card is translucent, then you are okay. Once you are happy you are running with a viable system, the next thing to try is the speed setting. As standard the EuroIDE cards comes configured with the 'IDESpeed' option set to 1. To try the other configuration, press F12 from the Desktop followed by:
*configure idespeed 0
Then reset the computer using <CTRL><BREAK>
If this still doesn't work, try the EuroIDE card in every slot with both 'IDESpeed' settings. A lot of people have noticed that due to the rather high levels of electrical 'noise' which often surrounds the backplanes, the EuroIDE card will work in one particular slot fine but not in any of the others. Finally, if you are using an A4x0/1 computer and are experiencing similar problems to the above, you may need a slight modification to be made to your EuroIDE card to get it to function properly with your machine. This again is unfortunately due to the electrical noise emanating from the backplane. If this is the case, give Castle Technology a call and go through to our technical department who will be only to pleased to make the slight modification for free.
